The One About Being the Best

The One About Being the Best

I’ve seen a few posts on Twitter this week from schools who’ve had letters from the DfE about their school’s KS2 results. The schools are proud of the achievements of their pupils, but I’m not sure I agree with the sharing of these letters. (And I’ll admit at this point, we didn’t get one!)

From what I have seen, there are two varieties of letter – getting 100% in all areas or getting exceptional progress scores. I know that these should mean that any school whose pupils have performed brilliantly should be rewarded, but I’m not sure that it does.

In the case of one school, I know they’re already oversubscribed. Their letter has given them the chance to advertise their brilliance; an opportunity they simply don’t need given their current intake and application levels.

As I admitted, I am perhaps jealous (especially as I work in a school so small that we have never been required to publish results at all!) But I can’t help feeling that this shouldn’t be what KS2 results are about.

{Note: this post was unfinished but is published anyway to share what I thought at the time}
